Arrival

Mary and I flew into Shanghai on September 1. We managed to make our way to a hotel with the help of a few kind Chinese we met along the way. The next morning a friend of our case manager at the English teaching placement company that found us our jobs met us at the hotel and took us to the bus station. We rode the bus for maybe four and a half hours down to Zhoushan, including a 45 minute ferry ride out to the island. Our boss at the school met us, showed us our apartment, and then took us out to dinner with some other English teachers. The next day, Sunday, we went for a run up into the hills near us, and were shown around town by the daughter of an English teacher. Monday we went to the school, and received some basic orientation while we tried to learn what we could about what we’d be teaching. Tuesday we started in on teaching.
