Teaching

We’re teaching to four different levels of English students, from maybe 7th graders who are complete beginners to maybe 10th graders who are intermediate level or better. We teach 2-5 classes per day, and have a fair amount of time free to plan lessons. We thought we’d actually be teaching English, but it seems that they just want us to get them to speak English. As other English teachers told us, “Just get them to speak, and enjoy your class, and it will be good.” In each class we teach, Mary and I are dividing a larger class into two smaller sections of 25-40 students that we each work with.

The students are great. I don’t have that much experience with kids of any of these ages, but they’re very nice, intelligent, and fun to be with. I’ve enjoyed being in the classroom teaching for the most part, it's just worrying about lesson planning and whether I might run out of things to do with them that I haven’t enjoyed.
